2012 to 2017 - OUTSTANDING YEARS FOR CONVEYCO
The period from 2012 to 2017 has been very busy for Conveyco. The installation of some of the most expansive and ambitious projects in the country have been successfully completed. Our growth is such that two additional facilities have been acquired to aid production. Our modern 3900m² facility has been completed in 2008 to cater for Conveyco's expansion.
These include:
Home Choice is the largest ecommerce company in South Africa. We installed a modern conveyor system in 2013 at their Cape Town distribution centre from the picking areas, quality check area, sealing areas , taping areas to the waste conveyors. Later upgrades where done in 2017, which included our Continuous Vertical Lifter and a mezzanine for more working space.
Jonsson Workwear supply the complete solution of manufacturing their own product to distribution. The conveyor system we installed in 2013 at their Johannesburg distribution centre is the most advanced system allowing for 23 scanners & voice activated picking.
The Foschini Group (TFG) has 5 distribution centres all over South Africa. We maintain all their conveyor systems after installing equipment at these facilities. The latest installation was at their Johannesburg distribution centre in 2016 which included 6 picking lines, auditing areas, sealing areas , label print & apply areas to the despatch conveyors. They have also included us in their Driving innovation in retail logistics / Supply Chain Digital - Supply Chain Brochure on the web, our article can be found on page 8.
Woolworths has 7 distribution centres all over South Africa. After installing conveyor system at most we now maintain these conveyors systems. The latest installation we did in 2016 was at their mega distribution centre in Montague Gardens. This conveyor system consists of a receiving area, 4 pick lines, staging area, quality control area, buffering area, carousels, and despatch conveyors.
On the Dot has 2 distribution centres one in Centurion and the other in Cape Town. After installing conveyor systems at both these facilities we now also maintain these. In 2017 we have installed conveyor upgrades at both premises to gain a higher through put.
Truworths has many distributions centres throughout South Africa. The latest installation in 2015 was upgrades to the conveyors system which included new conveyors, audit stations, re-ticking stations and a spiral decline conveyor.
Pep Stores & Pepkor Logistics has 19 distribution centres in South Africa. We have installed most of the conveyor systems at these premises. We also have on site maintenance staff to keep the conveyors running smoothly. The latest conveyor upgrades we installed was in 2016.
Various systems in Fruit Handling Industry in Eastern and Western Cape. Includes bulk bin in-feeds, dumps, stackers, de-stackers, drying tunnels, flumes, sorting tables, belt conveyors, live roller conveyors, etc.
Defy distribution centre in Jacobs, Durban. Here they manufacture and distribute free-standing stoves, built-in ovens and hobs, tumble dryers, consoles and air conditioners. Conveyco had the pleasure of installing a conveyor system at this facility in 2013.
We where tasked to convey the packaged stoves from
the packaging lines to the distribution bays.
The stoves feed in from five packaging conveyor lines onto an out feed
conveyor line at 90° using popup transfer units. The out feed conveyor
line flows from two different directions and is also transferred at 90°
using a popup transfer unit onto the conveyor which takes it through the
shrink wrapper.
After the shrink wrapper the box is rotated by a rotating conveyor so
the bar code can be scanned. A pusher then pushes the box to the side so
the box can be strapped.
From here the box is conveyed onto a two shuttle cars which
conveys/sorts it to one of 17 different offloading conveyors where it is
transferred to be removed by the forklifts and stored for distribution.
Conveyco installed mainly MDR/ZPA equipment; however for some equipment
conventional motor gear units are used.
The shuttle cars are controlled with VSD to ramp up / down to align with accumulation spurs. Braking / targeting is done by inverter regenerative braking as conventional brake motors loose accuracy as mechanics heat up causing over run when operating a higher speeds. To maximize throughput 2 x double shuttle cars are used with a 3rd single shuttle used as a bridge at times.
Fourteen Heavy Duty Structural Type Mezzanines totalling ±12000m² complete with conveyor systems erected in Ackermans and Pep Stores Distribution Centres and Home Choice.
